Our Sustainability Strategy 2023-26 sets out our approach to sustainability up to 2026 in line with the ‘Sustainability’ commitments we have made under our Corporate Strategy to ‘make our residents proud of where they live and our colleagues proud of where they work’.
Our Sustainability Strategy was developed with our Board, residents, colleagues and stakeholders to understand what matters to them when thinking about sustainability. It focuses on positive outcomes for existing and future residents in addition to colleagues, partners and the wider community, setting out our roadmap for how we will achieve our goals.
We’ve made great progress in reducing our environmental impact and our sustainability as a community-focused organisation. Our first independent environmental impact (SHIFT) assessment awarded Housing Solutions a ‘silver standard’, with even better results for carbon emissions and biodiversity. Recently we had a second assessment and are extremely proud to have achieved 'gold.'
We know there’s more we can do - we’re working hard to
- Build new homes that will meet net zero carbon targets and further improving the energy efficiency of our homes.
- Bring all of our homes up to an EPC D rating or better by 2025/26 so we’re on course to reach net zero carbon by 2050.
- Reduce avoidable waste (including fly tipping) generated across our property stock and have promoted waste efficiency through our digital channels.
- Review our new home design standards to ensure they’re sustainable and fit for the future including sustainable heating such as mechanical heat recovery (MVHR) systems.
- Access additional external funding where available
