PAS9980 surveys permanent measures

  • What is PAS?

PAS 9980:2022 is a code of practice that provides a methodology for conducting Fire Risk Appraisals of External Wall construction (FRAEW) for existing multi-storey, multi-occupied residential buildings

It was developed to replace the UK government's 2020 Consolidated Advice Note (CAN) on building safety.

Proportionality and Competence: The code emphasises a risk-based approach, ensuring that fire risk appraisals are conducted by competent professionals.

Holistic Assessment: It considers the building's use, occupancy, and fire safety arrangements to provide a comprehensive risk assessment.

Mitigation Measures: PAS 9980 identifies pragmatic ways to safeguard residents and reduce excessive remediation costs

Application: It applies to buildings of any height and is particularly relevant for those with combustible materials in their external wall.

This code aims to improve building safety by providing clear guidelines for assessing and mitigating fire risks associated with external wall construction and cladding.
